Hi all, like many on this thread, I spent forever and a day working out how to root this thing, trying different rooting software, methods, rooting according to different versions, firing every command under ADB, nothing was getting this thing rooted (it came pre-installed with android 4.2.1) After much googling, I found a link with some rooting tools, and the process basically entails downloading the firmware, extracting it, pushing some files, updating, failing, and rebooting, if that makes sense. I'll walk you through it What you need to do: 1. Download the firmware from the Prestigio website of the latest version (which for the PMP5580C, is, select 'Downloads', and hit the latest firmware) 2. Download number 5 from this list (Jelly Bean Root Package), found, and extract it's contents 3. With this firmware file, you need to extract it. You should have 'Manual' and 'Firmware'. Extract the entire zip, so you have access to these folders 4. In 'Firmware', there will be 'Update.zip'. You need to open this file in WinRAR or a similar program (no need to extract this one as such, as we'll only be dragging and dropping) 5. Navigate in WinRAR in update.zip to /system/bin/ and copy from the Jelly bean root package the 'su' and 'busybox' files, by just dragging them into the folder in WinRAR (hit OK if prompted, and it should re-compress) 6. Navigate in WinRAR in update.zip to /system/app/ and copy the SuperSU.apk from the Jelly bean root package, by again just dragging into the folder and hitting OK 7. Close that file, it should now have those three files there 8. Alongside the 'Firmware' folder, should be two other files, 'factory_update_param.aml' and 'uImage_recovery'. You need to copy these 3 files (Those two and the update.zip) to the root of your SDCard which is in the tablet 9. Turn off the device, and then attempt to reboot it in download mode by holding in the Vol + and the power button. It will come up with the android, and installing. After a while, this might fail, if you look at the output, it might say 'Installation aborted', it's alright, mine did this as well. Regardless of your message before, go to 'Install file from EXT' (or something like that), and select 'update.zip'. Running this twice will ensure the errors didn't cause the file to actually be missing. Prestigio GeoVision 5300 GPS navigation device with fast and user-friendly Mireo DON’T PANIC software and detailed CarteBlanche map of Ukraine. The flagship of the new line of Prestigio smartphones has all the features to cope with complex tasks. It is your faithful partner when carrying out any mission. It may also say again that it was aborted, ignore this error, and just go back and reboot your device 11. I found out it was rooted by downloading a program (attempting to root it again) called Kingo Android Root, and it told me my tablet was already rooted. You should be able too at this point, install SuperUser from the play store (I recommend either ChainFire's SU or the one by ClockWorkMod, NOT ChainsDD's Super user app, as this one didn't give me any prompt to update binaries 12. Download 'Root Checker', hopefully you're greeted with the same message I was Good luck, and happy rooting! Note: Due to the nature of the process, I can't see why this wouldn't work for other Prestigio Devices, as all that changes is the firmware, which can be downloaded for each tablet of the de.prestigio website.
